This book is designed to be used by those who already possess a basic understanding of SQL-based databases but who need specific information regarding PostgreSQL.

Ideally, the reader should have some familiarity with a UNIX-style operating system. This is not a strict requirement, but it will make certain tasks like installation or administration much easier.

As previously mentioned, this book is more suited as a technical reference as opposed to a teaching manual. Moreover, due to the practical organization of this book, it is probably better to flip from section to section rather than trying to read it sequentially.
